The Corporate World and False Eyelashes

The Corporate World and False Eyelashes

The corporate world calls for a certain disposition, a dress code that is considered appropriate for work. In the past, dressing professionally was not too difficult, a full matching business suit, including a jacket and dress pants or a dress skirt. Don the suit and you are sorted. However, the trend is changing. In many parts of the world, the traditional dress is being discarded in favor of a more relaxed dress code that allows employees to express who they are. It allows for increased comfort and personal expression. However, during these times the definition of professional attire becomes a little tricky, and it is very difficult to determine what is included in this relaxed mode of professional wear.

The professional attire is paired with subtle, refined makeup. The question arises what place does false eyelashes have in the corporate world? Is a pair of false eyelashes an acceptable code of dress while at work? Well, if it was a decade or two ago, the answer would have been a strict NO. However, with the relaxed atmosphere in many organizations today, the answer is not so clear cut. There is a paradigm shift in corporate attire, whereby a pair of false eyelashes will not even elicit raised eyebrows in most companies. So, what place does false eyelashes have at your place of work?

To answer this question, we need to look at two factors. The type of profession you are in, and the corporate culture within the specific organization that you are employed in.

The Corporate World and False Eyelashes

In many traditional professions- lawyers, bankers, government agencies – the dress code is still very formal. You would not see jeans prevalent in such organizations. In contrast, many small organizations – especially those dealing with media, advertising, retail – tend to favor a more casual dressing creating a sense of informality. Consequently, in industries such as drama, film, modelling, trending clothing is a prerequisite. So, what happens if you sport false eyelashes at work.

With the popularity of false eyelashes and the fact that they are increasingly becoming a part of the daily beauty routine of many people, false eyelashes are now as natural as putting on some mascara on your eyes to highlight your lashes. Considering this, false eyelashes are and will slowly become acceptable in most professions in the corporate world. However, there are some factors that we should take note of, while donning the falsies at work.

In tune with the subtle makeup acceptable professionally, it is better to go for light, natural looking false lashes that will accent your eyes. Dense, heavy lashes designed to create drama should be avoided at work, no matter what profession you are in. Despite how relaxed the culture at your organization is, the fashionable and dramatic false eyelashes that turned heads and were a hit at a beauty launch or at a party, would just be considered tarty at work. The low-key false eyelashes would definitely be more appropriate if you want to include the falsies in your pre-work makeup ritual.

Another option that you can go for – eyelash extensions. Once you get them for the first time, you will not stop. For the corporate woman, if you get extensions, it will give you the eye-catching look you are vying for without taking too much effort or time in the morning. The extensions will save you the time it takes to put on the mascara and liner, as your eyes will be accentuated without the help of mascara. You will be able to do away with mascara and liner.

On a final note, in the present day the fine line between work wear and casual wear has been blurred and what will work for you will depend greatly on the corporate culture prevalent in the organization. Since, the popularity of false eyelashes is slowly making its way into the corporate wear, make sure to put them on smartly, eliciting positive remarks rather than negative feedback. Don those falsies or eyelash extension and rock at work. However, be prepared to answer loads of questions regarding them. You could be starting a new trend.
