No beauty makeover or look is complete without a pair of false eyelashes. They have the ability to take your beauty look from blah to wow. They can be a real game changer for you and can become an extension of yourself- your personality, your face and your beauty. Some people swear by them- they wear their false lashes almost every day.
Last time you went shopping and picked up a pair of great quality lashes (and the good ones cost a bomb), you vowed to yourself to take good care of them. After all, the fluttering look does come at a price, and what is a bit of maintenance to keep that eye-catching look lasting longer.
False eyelashes can be fairly durable if taken care of. They can last for many uses, giving your eyelashes the extra volume and length when you need it. Here are some sure-fire tips to keep your false lashes in tiptop condition and to keep them lasting so long that you even forgot when you had bought them.
Remove Excess Glue
Excessive amount of glue can make the lashes harder to put on and off. Glue can build up over time and spoil the shape of your lash strip. This will make it difficult to apply the lashes on your eye and will also make the lashes uneven. A lot of glue on the lashes makes it harder to remove, and you can run a risk of tearing the lashes while removing them.
- If you put in a lot of glue during application (it happens!!), wait for the glue to dry on the lashes and then clean the glue so that any buildup doesn’t show.
- You may also use tweezers to peel away bits of glue that remain after removing them.
Use Tweezers to Put on your False Eyelashes
Though it is easy to put on your false eyelashes with your fingers, it is better to use tweezers or a lash applicator. You can use the tweezer to grip them in the center, and then place them along the lash line. Remove the tweezer once the glue has dried completely. The reason for using the tweezers is to avoid using the hands. Using fingers may damage the false eyelashes and you may even run the risk of dirtying the lashes as your fingers may have touched other products during your makeup routine.
Avoid Too Much Mascara
Mascara can build up on the false eyelashes over time making them too thick. It can also decrease the time your lashes will last. This is the reason why you often hear people saying that mascara should be avoided altogether if you are wearing false lashes.
It is important to note that even though this tip may have some credibility, it is impossible to avoid mascara altogether. After you have worn your lashes for a few times, you will notice that they don’t fit perfectly to your lash line. There is a slight gap between your real lashes and your fake lashes. (Even if you deny it, that small gap is noticeable). You can blend the two lashes with the help of mascara. However, just apply the mascara to the small area which you are trying to hide and not the whole lashes. This will avoid any excessive buildup.
If you want to make your lashes thicker or darker, you should try applying the mascara on to the lashes before putting them on. This will avoid damaging your falsies.
Clean your Lashes immediately after Use
This may seem like a simple and very obvious tip, but it is often the hardest to do. Who wants to sit around cleaning lashes after a night out? But there are a few easy methods that you can use to clean them in a jiffy, without much effort.
- You can soak the lashes in makeup remover (It is important to note that you shouldn’t use oil-based remover as it can damage the lashes).
- You can remove any glue residue from the lash band with the help of tweezer. Then, take a Q-tip soaked in makeup remover and rub over the band and any other dirty part of the lashes.
- You can also fill a small container with warm water and a few drops of washing up liquid, then clean the false lashes until all the adhesive and mascara has been removed.
Put Them Away Safely
It is best to have a special place to keep your lashes while not in use. Some brands of false lashes come in hard containers. These containers are perfect to keep the lashes safe from damage while not in use.
One great tip is to mark the number of times you use the lashes on top of the container. This way you will be able to tell how long the lashes last and if they are lasting you as long as promised by the manufacturers.
These simple tips are sure to keep your false eyelashes in perfect condition and they will definitely last you a long time. Beautiful lashes are only a blink (and a bit of care) away.
